Tolkien’s Beren and Luthien Released

It’s been about 100 years since JRR Tolkien started writing his stories of Beren and Luthien.

Now their story has been released in a book edited by Christopher Tolkien and illustrated by Alan Lee.

Christopher took Beren and Luthien’s story from the Silmarillion and spliced all the other mentions of them from his father’s other books, stories, and poems.

The combination is what came together for this new book, which takes place in Middle Earth about 6,500 years before The Lord of The Rings.

For those unfamiliar, Beren is a human and Luthien is an elvish princess and the two fall in love.

To prove his worth, Beren is sent on a quest by Luthien’s father King Thingol.

His quest is to recover one of the Silmarils from the Dark Lord Morgoth.

Preview: The Hobbit an Unexpected Journey

Tolkien fans are nearing another gleeful rejoicing, as the time comes closer for the first Hobbit movie to be released. The Hobbit is Tolkien’s book which takes place before The Lord of The Rings trilogy.

Peter Jackson is once again bringing the story to the screen, and has split the book into three parts: An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug, and There and Back Again.

This is the tale of Bilbo Baggins’ adventures and eventually how he comes to be the holder of the one ring. He accompanies Gandalf and a group of dwarves on their quest to reclaim the Kingdom of Erebor from the dragon Smaug.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will still be coming out December 14, 2012, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is due out December 13, 2013, and The Hobbit: There and Back Again has been announced for July 18, 2014.

A note: Normally we don’t share fan made trailers, but only official ones, however this one is extremely well done. It blends multiple previews together, into a seven minute trailer. Some scenes are actually from each of the movies.

Hobbit Trilogy Dates Released

To many fans it came as very disappointing news that The Hobbit would be split into three parts, instead of the planned two.

But at least some good news has come now as we find when each of the trilogy will be released.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will still be coming out December 14, 2012, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is due out December 13, 2013, and The Hobbit: There and Back Again has been announced for July 18, 2014.

Good news then that we’ll not have to wait even two full years to see movie.

3D lovers are sure to be excited that the films will all be available in it, and traditionalists fear not regular 2D is still happening as long as IMAX.

For those who aren’t aware The Hobbit was the book, by J. R. R. Tolkien, that takes place before The Lord of The Rings trilogy.

It contains the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Frodo’s uncle, the hobbit who turned 111 near the beginning of The Fellowship of The Ring, and who had been the previous owner of the ring.
